LG Optimus Note Makes An Appearance – Dual-core Tegra 2 Slider

Not to be confused with the Samsung Galaxy Note that was introduced at IFA last week, the LG Optimus Note made a surprise visit to Mr. Blurrycam today showing off its alluring physical QWERTY keyboard and 4-inch NOVA LCD display. Also accompanying the fuzzy pic is a leaked press shot for the device to make everything that much more official. Apparently, this device will feature a 1.2GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 5MP rear facing/1.3MP front facing cameras with LED flash and 8GB of internal storage. Let’s hope this is the very same LG Optimus Slider that we’ve been hearing about supposedly making its way to Sprint. What do you guys think? [Via Engadget ]

T-Mobile G-Slate 3.1 Update Brings Locked Bootloader

If you’re a T-Mobile G-Slate owner and you fancy yourself an Android modder, you may want to wait before updating your device to the official 3.1 update rolling out right now . I’ve stumbled upon some information that the update will, in fact, lock the bootloader making the flashing of custom ROMs and all the other goodies that come with it, impossible. At least for now. Up until this update, the LG G-Slate was one of the more developer friendly tablets with fastboot OEM unlock and the Nvidia APX allowing full read/write access to the device. Anyone thinking of skipping the official update altogether only to remain at the mercy of the Android developer community? (They have cake) [Via Reddit ]

Amazon CEO files patent for mobile device airbags

Oh no! Not another patent story. I think you will like this one. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was just listed as an inventor on a new patent application that describes a “method for protecting a portable device that includes an airbag deployable from a side of the portable device.” Genius, right? “Prior to impact between a surface and a device, a determination of a risk of damage to the device is made. If the risk of damage to the device exceeds a threshold, a protection system is activated to reduce or substantially eliminate damage to the device.” The patent was originally submitted in 2010, so there’s no telling when we might actually see this tech come to light. As someone who has dropped plenty of phones, I hope they pull it off.

Toshiba Thrive Gains Root Access

If you were one of the chubby chasers who found yourself taking home a Toshiba Thrive, you may be pleased to know that the device has been rooted – just not COMPLETELY. The guys over at TabletROMs discovered an exploit on the Thrive and from there, the guys from ThriveForums picked up the ball and finally gained Super User permissions on the tablet. So while the stock ROM on the Thrive is rooted and can run rooted apps, developers still haven’t been able to gain R/W access to the system directory which makes deleting apps that came pre-installed on the device possible. Interestingly enough, Toshiba actually built the software to flash the stock recovery upon reboot making a custom recovery and custom ROMs a non-possibility as well. Super user and root access is always the first step so here’s hoping the devs manage to crack this chunky monkey soon enough. [Via TechCrunch ]

Archos G9 Tablet’s Viewing Angles Shown Off [Video]

Yea, we’re still drooling over the Archos G9 tablet, what with the impressive list of specs it boasts at such affordable price points, and all. We can’t help but to sniff out more and more we can about this device. A video of the device has been uncovered showing off its viewing angles. To be honest, it’s quite impressive just how clear the picture is when looking at it from the several angles we see here. Unfortunately, color does look washed out on the 10.1 inch display but that could be due to the video. And for the brief few seconds they actually used the device, this thing looks maddeningly quick. Check it out for yourself above and check here if you need a refresher on the specs that will likely leave you devoid of breath. [ Thanks Richard! ]

Samsung Fascinate Gets Gingerbread Leak

Nope, Verizon hasn’t forgotten about you Fascinate owners. It looks like they’re working on a Gingerbread update for the device and P3Droid has leaked the first known build for it. From the looks of it, there’s not much here that’s new. You do get Samsung’s new darker color scheme for the notification pane and we imagine the latest version of Swype, but we can’t tell what else has changed since Froyo. Head on over to XDA for instructions and support, but know that you’re responsible for anything that happens to your device. [ Thanks to everyone who sent this in! ]

BlackBerry Touch 9860 parts appear online

Those of you waiting for RIM’s next-generation touchscreen slate BlackBerry (better known by its code names, Monaco and Monza) have another glimmer of hope to cling to. Recently TrueSupplier started listing individual components of the device , which generally indicates a phone has gone into mass production. We’ve seen the device live on video , in plenty of stills , and even enjoyed a detailed spec sheet . From all of that, we’ve pieced together that the Monaco/Monza will cover both CDMA and GSM carriers, run OS 7 (complete with new graphics rendering engine), and include near-field communications and a magnetic compass for augmented reality apps. The 5 megapixel camera on the back should be able to take 720p video recording, and the device will also be among the first BlackBerry smartphones to support mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. The BlackBerry 9860 will have the biggest, highest-resolution screen from any BlackBerry to date (3.7 inches, 800 x 480), but we’re expecting a smaller brother, the Curve Touch, to tackle the mid-range tier. The BlackBerry 9860 will either be going to market as the Touch or the Volt , but I’m leaning towards the prior. As for timeline, our best guess is June 29 on T-Mobile , followed by the Bold 9900 for back-to-school. Seeing as both had their ad spots leaked at the same time , it’s likely enough that they’ll be launching around the same time.
