Droid Bionic Pricing Again Confirmed, Best Buy Says $299 with Contract

As the Droid Bionic launch quickly approaches, there is always time for a few last minute leaks to confirm the details we don’t quite have locked down yet. Though pricing has not been announced, the Bionic has long looked to be headed to store shelves with a $299.99 price tag when bought on a two-year contract, and a leaked Best Buy pricing sheet confirms just that. Also confirmed is the $589.99 pricing we first saw revealed by the ‘Terms and Conditions’ page of DroidDoes.com, but it looks like this won’t be the true off-contract pricing. $589.99 is Best Buy’s cost, though they will sell the handset outright for $699.99. Motorola Droid Bionic officially hits Verizon Sept. 8

The long wait for the Droid Bionic is almost over, as Verizon’s first dual-core, 4G LTE phone will be landing Sept. 8. “On September 8th 2011, the Motorola Droid Bionic will be in your hands.” the Droid Bionic official Twitter account said . This will end a long and strange journey, as the Motorola Droid Bionic was first introduced in January at CES with a scheduled summer release time. Since then, the Droid Bionic has gone through a system redesign , three Verizon 4G LTE phones have been released and Motorola itself has been acquired by Google (or will be soon). The long wait may have also killed some of the buzz, as Blake is passing on the Droid Bionic in favor of the upcoming Samsung Nexus Prime. Still, the Droid Bionic will offer the magical combination of a dual-core processor, 4G LTE and the Droid brand, so I expect it to sell a bunch of units. Are you still waiting for Droid Bionic? Verizon hasn’t given us an official price yet but don’t be surprised to see this one retail for a little bit more than the standard $199. Gingerbread Leaks for Motorola Droid 2 Global

The Motorola Droid 2 Global has been feeling a bit left out as Verizon has blessed several other members of their lineup with an update to Android 2.3. Lest D2g owners think they have been forgotten, a leaked build of Gingerbread has surfaced over at RootWiki.  The update is marked as build number 4.5.606. While the leak is still being analyzed by members of the developer community, a rooted version of the file has not been released. The build is available as leaked, but can only be installed to a D2G with the latest stock software. While further testing needs to be done, early reports claim that the update brings along an unlocked bootloader. The update is in the very early stages, so install at your own risk (or wait until a more stable build of the release is created for easy flashing to a rooted handset). The existence of Gingerbread for the Droid 2 Global doesn’t necessarily mean we will be seeing the official update anytime soon, but it is as good a sign as we have had that it will eventually grace the device. More release date roulette for the Motorola Droid Bionic

Just one day after posting our complete recap of the Droid Bionic story so far , more internal documents have made their way online that add to the release date madness. This time, DroidLife has their hands on some sort of fishy document that says indirect retailers will be receiving Bionic handsets on or around the 29th of this month, to be sold on August 4th. The dates certainly make sense, but the errors in the document do not. For one, there’s an obvious spelling error in the first section of the document. Instead of saying “ It’s coming in August,” it says “ Its coming in August.” That could have just been an easy mistake, but add the oddly placed registered trademark symbol and the fact that documents like this are rather uncommon (to “indirect” dealers”)… well, things don’t look too bright. But wait, there’s more! Another document was sent in along with the release date paper that says pre-orders start on July 31st. Receiving a handset on the 29th, starting pre-orders on the 31st, and releasing it on the 4th certainly is fast, but that’s not what stinks about this document. Not only will you find two spelling errors in this one, but the registered trademark symbol is back, along with a missing number in one of the dates. Seems more and more like these are fakes right? Well it’s not over yet. One more leaked document was sent in tonight, only this time from Best Buy . According to this document, Best Buy will be receiving cases for the Droid Bionic on August 20th. Generally, cases come to somewhere like Best Buy a week or two before a device is released, so this could lend some credibility to a rumor that the Bionic will release September 1st. Feeling confused? Let down? Just want this to be over? Soon enough, it will be. Until then, it looks like a real release date is really anyone’s guess.

Motorola Droid 3 teardown shows same 3G chip as iPhone 4

The Motorola Droid 3 has only been out for a few days but the good folks over at iFixit have already torn the latest Verizon Android phone apart. The results are terribly shocking but it is nice to see the same international 3G chip inside this thing that’s in the iPhone 4 . Yes, the Motorola Droid 3 is a Verizon phone that uses CDMA but it also includes a SIM card slot for global roaming and the chip is quite a good one. The Qualcomm MDM6600 supports HSPA+ speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps down and it works nearly anywhere in the world. Motorola Droid 3 Reveals its SIM Card in Device Teardown

The folks over at iFixIt got their hands on the newly released Motorola DROID 3 for Verizon, and in typical fashion the handset didn’t stay in one piece for long. The device teardown shows us much of what we expected — a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 CPU, 512MB of RAM, and a 4.0-inch qHD Gorilla Glass display — but has one rather interesting revelation. The Droid 3 features a pre-installed SIM card to further expands the handset’s global reach. The inclusion of the GSM-compatiblity makes this Droid 3 a true world-roamer, though (as a Verizon warns) data fees could reach as high as $20 per MB when outside the US. You can see the full teardown at the source link below, where its details might just come in handy if you ever have the need to replace any components on your Droid 3 (and are feeling froggy enough to do it yourself). Peter Alfonso Brings Android 2.3.4 to the Classic Motorola Droid

Yeah, that’s right. I called it a classic…and why not? It is pretty much an unspoken truth that original Motorola Droid has come about as far as it can. Those still using the handset (myself included) can hold out hope all they want, but it is unlikely we will ever see an official Gingerbread build for the handset. Thank Moses for Peter Alfonso, who has been hard at work on various ports of the latest OS for the Droid since Android 2.3 was announced. His latest brings us Android 2.3.4 in its purest form. We imagine if Gingerbread ever did hit the Droid officially it would look something like this build, minus some of the under-the-hood tweaks. Sounds like an install is in order. GSM Version of the Motorola Droid 3 In The Works?

Looks like it might be if you can believe what just passed through the FCC. According to Wireless Goodness a device identified as the IHDT56MF2 just won FCC approval and according to them, it could very well be the a GSM (AT&T) version of the Motorola Droid 3. But how do we know it’s a Droid 3? Well, when looking at test reports for the device, the device packing the same qHD display, 16GB of internal storage and many of the same specs found in the Droid 3. Also worth mentioning, the IHDT56MF2 is using the same SNN5885A battery not found in any other Motorola product except the — you guessed it, the Droid 3. As far as carrier destination goes, the device is supporting the same GSM and WCDMA bands as AT&T’s network making it foggy if what we’re seeing is a overseas Droid 3 or something that will hit stateside on AT&T. The Verizon version of the Droid 3 wont see an official release until the 14th and it wouldn’t be too far fetched to imagine this could very well be the Motorola Milestone 3. Lately, we’ve started seeing Motorola release different versions of their phones on multiple carriers so if this qwerty packing dual core ever hits Sprint, you better believe I’ll be all over it. Everything You Need to Know About the DROID 3 is on YouTube [Videos]

We saw these leaked a bit before the DROID 3 actually launched, and now that it’s finally here , Motorola has released a smorgasbord of videos showing you how to use your DROID 3 to do various tasks. We’ve included one above that shows you how web browsing on the DROID 3 is, but there are tons more to be had on Motorola’s YouTube channel . Make your way over there after you find that bucket of popcorn you’re going to need.

Motorola Droid 3 gets a 360-degree view on Verizon’s website

As far as we know Verizon Wireless will officially launch the Motorola Droid 3 on July 7th. And while we’ve seen quite a few leaked photos of the device, we were kinda surprised someone managed to access Droid 3′s 360-degree view on Verizon’s website. I couldn’t find it myself, but Droid-Life did. Thanks to them we know exactly how the Android smartphone will look like. Not that we didn’t know that before , it’s just that now we have images from every possible angle, which is nice. If you recall, the Droid 3 is a side-slider device with a 4-inch qHD (540×960 pixels) capacitive touchscreen, EV-DO Rev. A and Wi-Fi connectivity, 1GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, and that awesome 5-row keyboard with dedicated number keys. However, the lack of LTE connectivity may be a deal-breaker for data hungry users. Moreover, some other folks complained 512MB of RAM may not be enough to run things smoothly once the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update is released.
