Facebook updated to version 1.7

Though Facebook is widely considered to be the red-headed stepchild in the Android community now that Google has launched a  social network of their own , the service continues to grow at a baffling rate, now claiming over 850 million users. Facebook’s Android application has been fairly uninspired and most updates to date have been a half-hearted attempt to mirror what was already in the iOS version. Personally, when I’ve felt the need to check what’s going on with my Facebook friends, I’ve more often be found using the mobile website rather than the Android app. That might be about to change, as today’s update to version 1.7 brings some serious enhancements, not the least of which includes full support for Honeycomb tablets, though it doesn’t add a tablet-optimized UI. In addition to full Honeycomb support, Facebook 1.7 brings: Enhanced Privacy Controls Allows users to select which friends/groups to share their updates with Pull down on your newsfeed to automatically refresh Swipe left and right in photo albums Ability to tag your friends in pictures Enhanced UI, especially within individual profiles and the newsfeed Improvements to notifications and messages Various bugfixes and performance enhancements Quite the slew of updates for the Facebook application. If you haven’t already, head over to  the market  and update your Facebook application to version 1.7. Let us know how you like the updates in the comments. TNT now available for the iPad, watch full episodes with a TV subscription

TNT has just released an iPad-optimized version of its app, bringing with it full-length TV episodes and movies. iPad users can expect to get complete access to their favorite TNT shows at any place or time they want. Users can also check out episode guides, watch clips and behind-the-scenes videos, set schedule reminders and even watch full episodes of The Closer, Falling Skies, Rizzoli & Isles and more after authenticating through your television provider. The full feature list includes: Full Episodes of TNT Series and Movies (after authenticating) Series Episode Guides Clips and Behind-the-Scenes Video Show Schedules with Reminders GetGlue, Facebook and Twitter Integration TNT for iPad is available for free, though you need a subscription to a TV provider to have full access. This has become the new trend for television networks going mobile; what sucks is the fact that this only extends the reach of the cable providers seeking more control of the content you like to watch. With apps like this, you can’t have a full streaming experience unless you’re putting money in the satellite and cable providers’ pockets, which blows. In a perfect world, it would be awesome if TV networks charged people who don’t have cable separately. Popular music service Turntable.fm is coming to iOS

Turntable.fm is a growing music service that has really caught on and TechCrunch got its hands on some screen shots of the mobile version. Yes, Turntable.fm is getting an iPhone app, so you’ll soon be able to share “Party Rock Anthem” while on the go. Shortly after the report, co-founder Billy Chasen commented on the article: “Hey TechCrunch — you scooped yourselves. We were saving this as a surprise for TC Disrupt when I’m on stage ” Oops! Well for a premature app, it’s looking really slick. It almost perfectly mimics the design of the main website , and all the necessary functionality appears to be there. The screenshot above depicts the DJ booth in full swing. Even more impressive is the lone developer, who apparently is a talented 19-year-old. If you aren’t familiar with Turntable, it’s a website that allows users to become virtual DJs in different “rooms.” There are up to five DJs at a time that contribute their own music selections, while other participants in the room get to sit back and enjoy. Users can then rate the songs playing and share them on Facebook, Twitter, or via email — a feature crucial to Turntable’s rapid success. It’s invite-only, but if you have a Facebook friend with access, you can quickly sign up and get started. It doesn’t look like we’ll see an Android app any time soon, but loyal fans of Turntable should be pleased to hear of a mobile version at all. Chasen is expected to reveal more information about the upcoming app at Disrupt next week. Cloo for iPhone makes peeing social and profitable

Cloo launched recently on an interesting premise: sometimes it’s hard to find a can in the city, nevermind a clean one. By leveraging existing social networks like Foursquare, Twitter, and Facebook, Cloo enables users needing a quick pee break to find second-degree friends that have some facilities available. Hosts even get a bit of coin for opening up their doors, and through partnerships with companies in the toiletries industry, those hosts could even get some freebies. Users can take pictures of washrooms and leave reviews so others can make educated pee requests. Although the matchmaking technology being used here isn’t particularly new, it’s definitely a social element that hasn’t thoroughly explored. It’s a little weird broadcasting that you need to take a piss to someone you might only know incidentally. On top of that, paying to use a restroom isn’t something I’m in the habit of doing. Third, it would take a boggling amount of confidence to allow a veritable stranger into your home, but, strange as it may be, it could be a way to meet people you might not otherwise come into contact with. Would you be willing to put your washroom up for rent within a limited social circle? How often would you need to use something like this to find a place to “drop the kids off at the pool”? IFA: Sony Ericsson announces beefed up Xperia Arc S, release coming October

IFA has begun and all the goodies are starting to show up. One of the main players to take the stage is Sony Ericsson , and they’ve just announced a new device: the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. As you can imagine, this is a beefed up version of the original Xperia Arc . Improvements include a 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor and an 8.1 MP camera. Sony Ericsson is known for good camera quality, and this device does not lag behind. The Xperia Arc S camera comes packed with an Exmor R sensor. This camera seems to be the same one the older version carries, but it actually comes with a very interesting new feature. It now includes a 3D Sweep Panorama mode that allows you to take 2D panoramic pictures and transform them into 3D. As you would expect, the rest of the specs look to be the same as the original Xperia Arc. This includes a 4.2-inch display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread , 512 MB of RAM and 1 GB of internal storage with an 8 GB microSD card .(Supports cards of up to 32 GB). Sony Ericsson has announced that the Xperia Arc will be available this October (globally) in five colors. If you want to differentiate yourself from the crowd, your options will be: Pure White, Midnight Blue, Misty Silver, Gloss Black and Sakura Pink. The changes are not revolutionary, but that processor should bring an extra boost to your experience. We do wish that Sony Ericsson had announced a new device, though, and not just an upgrade to a current smartphone. For more details, take a look at the press release and images posted below. Dolphin Browser comes to the iPhone

Dolphin Browser has been available for various platforms — including Android and bada — for quite some time, and now the iOS users can join the fun, too. There are several features unique to Dolphin, when compared to default options on iPhone and Android: Webzine view – which makes reading a more pleasurable experience, removing all distractions from the content. Dolphin comes with more than 120 channel subscriptions, allowing users to quickly find content they’re interested in. Gestures as shortcuts – you can define which gesture will open which page. For instance, you can set “G” for Google.com, “F” for Facebook.com and so on. Sidebars – accessible by swiping left and right, you can use them to quickly launch the toolbar, or browse your bookmarks list, history and folders. Unlimited tabs – cause we all need an extra tab from time to time. In addition, Dolphin also comes with one-click sharing with Twitter and Facebook, speed dial (super-quick favorites access), and the ability to switch between mobile and desktop views. You can see how all this fits together from a short video below. Enjoy! Samsung Galaxy S II for Sprint (Samsung Epic 4G Touch) – Hands on video

We got a little bit of hands-on time with the Samsung Galaxy S 2 for Sprint , known as the Samsung Epic 4G Touch, and it’s an impressive Android handset. It’s very lightweight without feeling too cheap, and the Super AMOLED Plus screen is very nice. The display measures 4.52 inches diagonally, so it’s definitely a beast of a phone in terms of size and feel, but if you’re all about screen real estate, this is your phone. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch for Sprint runs Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 with an updated version of TouchWiz UI. It features Social Media Hub, which allows you to get your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn feed, along with other social media service feeds, all in one places. This way, you don’t have to constantly switch between apps just to get all the info you want from your social media outlets. On the back of the device, you’ll find an 8MP camera with a back-illuminated sensor, which ought to be great for capturing images in low-light situations. It is capable of recording HD video as well, so you can display them on your massive TV with the HDMI-out on the device. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch for Sprint is a 4G WiMax device, and you can use it as a mobile hotspot for 3G or 4G where available. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch for Sprint becomes available on September 16 for $199.99 with a new, two-year contract, which isn’t a bad price for this massive 4G WiMax device. Check out our small gallery below for additional photos and angles on the device. LG VS920 + FCC = LG Revolution 2?

It hasn’t even been a full year and we may already be seeing Verizon’s first LTE devices out the door in favor of newer models. One such device would be the LG Revolution 2, and from the looks of it, it is very real and could have just passed through the FCC. Meet the LG VS920. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the Revolution 2 name floating around, as we’ve been expecting it’s arrive ever since Verizon’s roadmap leaked out. That said, the original Revolution isn’t a handset many people would call old, but you know the way technology goes. So what could we expect from the Revolution 2 when it debuts? For one, throw in a dual-core processor into it to please the spec junkies. Another thing we’d like to see is a slimmer profile, and slim isn’t necessarily an adjective you hear associated with Verizon’s LTE devices today. Number three? Make it interesting. LG has made some serious strides in the smartphone market lately but there’s just nothing that makes the original Revolution stick out when you sit the Thunderbolt and Charge next to it. Even with a Revolution refresh, LG faces some stiff Android competition from HTC, Motorola, and Samsung. Motorola is set to launch the Droid Bionic and Droid HD on the world some time in the near future, Samsung will drop the Galaxy S 2 on the US, along side a possible LTE variant for Big Red, and the Nexus/Droid Prime handset. That is if the latter two aren’t one and the same. HTC will continue with whatever it does, which means making Facebook phones and Android handsets for girls as of late. Is LG rushing is Revolution successor before the competition makes its debut or will the Revolution 2 be one of the first next-gen LTE handsets for Verizon worth buying? Hit up this link to do some FCC digging of your own . [Via: Phandroid ] LG VS920 + FCC = LG Revolution 2? originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-08-29T23:11:04Z. FV1gMYsz9b5j

Google Plus for Android gets new update, now you can re-share post

Google just announced a new update for its Google Plus Android app . This new update (v.1.0.6) brings in the most requested feature, which is re-sharing other post from users. Since its the launch of Plus, Google has been on top of everything when it comes to improving the overall user experience. Sticking with that standard, Vic Gundotra, senior vice president of engineering and Google+ head honcho said on his Plus page, “We’ll keep working to make the Google+ experience awesome no matter what device you’re on.” He also assured iOS users that their update would be coming soon as well. Specs for the v.1.0.6 update Reshare a post App now available in 38 languages Incremental improvements to notification reliability Clearer Instant Upload options in the first setup dialog Bug fixes include: Eliminate Instant Upload duplicates on HTC models Fixed “No name” issue in Huddle Hidden 1:1 Huddles now reappear when new messages send Fixed issue with notifications count changing when switching from portrait to landscape Other performance fixes and minor UI tweaks Ability to create a new circle from the “Circles” destination Ever since Google+ hit the scene almost two months ago, I’ve been the biggest supporter of the social platform; I even deleted my Facebook account because of it. Google Plus is a bit different from Facebook in that you get to pick who you share updates with. Everyone you want to follow are placed into Circles based on your relationship with them. Contacts are all opt-in, like Twitter, so you don’t necessarily need to approve incoming requests (though you’re always in control of what you share and with whom). More information on the service can be found at google.com/plus . Check out the video below highlighting the new Plus features. Oh, and if you’re interested you can Circle me on Google Plus .
