HTC Sensation XE is the first Beats superphone

We told ya’ HTC’s first Beats Android smartphone is in works and voila… it’s here now. It’s called HTC Sensation XE and it’s an upgraded version of the original Sensation. The screen size remains the same (4.3-inches) and the phone looks a bit different, especially on the back. However, the real change is under the hood — instead of rocking a 1.2GHz processor, the Sensation XE comes with a faster one, clocking at 1.5GHz. Moreover, it comes with 16GB of built-in storage (up from 4GB the original Sensation has) as well as a bigger battery (1,730 mAh) and (obviously) better speaker(s). Unfortunately there’s still 768MB of RAM which we think is enough for today’s needs but may not be for the future ones — after all, there’s gotta be a reason why Samsung Galaxy S II comes with 1GB of RAM (i.e. upcoming upgrade to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich). Still, the Sensation XE is a rock-solid device and arguably the best smartphone HTC has made thus far… As for the release date, it will debut in EMEA and Asia Pacific from late September, costing 589 EUR. HTC Revenues Hit Record High for June

For the third straight month HTC revenues have hit a new high, rising 10.9 percent from May’s total to reach a record $1.55 billion USD. Second quarter revenue topped out at $4.2 billion, surpassing earlier projections of $4.17 billion. In total HTC’s revenues have grown 19.43 percent since the first quarter of 2011, and the recent figures suggest growth won’t be stopping anytime soon. Market experts are projecting that HTC will overtake RIM to become the fourth largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Estimates place handset shipments at 21 million for the first half of the year, though HTC’s full earnings report has not yet been released. [via BGR ]

Verizon’s 4G LTE spreading fast, more markets come June 16

Verizon was not joking about their commitment to expand their 4G coverage , which would cover about 200 million people by 2012. Verizon’s 4G LTE network lit up 9 new cities last week, but it seems like their work is not slowing down. Verizon is turning on the switch for the following markets on June 16 (and they are even more than last week): Hartford, Conn. Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing, Mich. Dayton and Springfield, Ohio Salt Lake City Spokane, Wash. Sacramento, Calif. Expansion in Oakland, Calif. Fresno, Calif. Boise, Idaho Erie, Harrisburg and State College, Penn. Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C. Fort Wayne-Indianapolis Milwaukee, Wis. Sioux Falls, S.D. It is good to see that 4G LTE is spreading widely, especially if you are the proud owner (or want to be) of an HTC Thunderbolt or a Samsung Droid Charge. With all these developments, though, chances are that there will be some rocks in the road. Verizon sure stumbled a bit (or a bunch) when their network went down last month. It does seem, though, like they have gotten up stronger now that they are bringing these blazing speeds to such a wide range of markets. Let’s just hope that they are not taking on more than they can handle and things work smoothly. Apple opening a temporary store in Austin for SXSW and the iPad 2 launch

Apple is planning to open a temporary 5,000 square foot store in downtown Austin that will open on the day the iPad 2 launches, that’s tomorrow by the way, and that just so happens to be the first day of South by Southwest (SXSW). Geeks, musicians, and other creative types typically flock to SXSW by the thousands. They’re there for three reasons: to find out what startups are working on, to listen to music they would have otherwise never been exposed to, and to enjoy party after party where free food and alcohol flow for eternity thanks to fat corporate expense accounts.
