Sprint iPad on the way alongside iPhone 5?

We know that the iPhone 5 should be coming to Sprint in October but the third-largest mobile operator may also be getting the Apple tablet to go along with it. According to 9to5Mac, Apple has prepared a 3G iPad which will be compatible with Sprint’s network. This is different than the Verizon 3G iPad but the report doesn’t mention whether there will be WiMax 4G support or not. I don’t picture Apple being the biggest fan of WiMax but I think that having 4G in an iPad could be a very cool thing. The AT&T version has a 3G iPad but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the next version have AT&T’s 4G . The issue is that having 4G on each network will require different radios and Apple generally doesn’t like to alter its devices too much for carriers. Still, having an iPad available on Sprint is a solid option but let’s wait to see how the tablet data plans work out. iOS 5 landing on October 10th, iPhone 5 on October 15th?

AppleInsider is reporting that AppleCare has been informed to prepare for a swarm of inquiries on or around October 10th regarding iOS. And no, I don’t think it’s because people are suddenly going to forget how to use their iPhones and iPads that day. The report signals the release of the highly anticipated iOS 5 and iPhone 5 . Now, it’s important to note that AppleInsider’s credibility has often been hit or miss. In fact, we have a bit of a warning: “While  AppleInsider  cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided, the tip did include specific details on call volumes that suggest the details are at least plausible. However, since the details come from an unproven source, the information is presented solely in the interest of discussion.” Oh good. Luckily for them, the October 10th date falls in line with earlier reports . BGR thinks iOS 5 beta 8 will be here Friday, and the GM will be here on September 23rd. October 10th is about two and half weeks after that, which is odd, but the dates are still relatively close together. Here’s another tidbit of information: the iPhone 5 is expected on October 15th. This, too, makes sense considering that Apple always released iOS GM versions right before the new hardware in the past. The CEO of Orange, a foreign wireless carrier, Stephane Richard specifically said in an interview with BFM TV “If I believe what we heard, the iPhone will be released Oct. 15.” While this doesn’t confirm anything, the CEO of a carrier is usually a reliable source. Unfortunately, since he is speaking for the country of France, the October 15th release date may not apply to the U.S. While all the rumors continue to pipe out, we are still stuck with Apple’s official word: iOS 5 in the fall . Vague, but we’ll receive the specifics soon enough. They haven’t even acknowledged the existence of an iPhone 5 yet. But we know better . Formspring releases official iPhone app full of surprises

Formspring has released its official iPhone and iPod touch app into the App Atore. We knew it was coming eventually, it was just the matter of when, but now it’s here, we’re glad to see that it’s looking good.  Everything you’d expect in a mobile version of Formspring is in this app. It has ask and answer functionality, the stream and inbox, sharing capabilities, smiling at responses, and more. You can even edit your profile picture. Bundled along with the app are some brand new features they didn’t announce previously and the big one is photo integration. Attach a photo to a question, attach a photo to a response, and attach a photo to a response to a response with a photo. Two other features included in the app are push notifications for any new questions sent to your inbox and the ability to ask questions to contacts on your phone. The contacts don’t necessarily need to already have an account either. Formspring thought of it all. But the surprises don’t stop there: In celebration of its first crack at mobile, Formspring is launching a giveaway on their Facebook page for four iPod touches. And if you aren’t pleased with any of the news so far because you aren’t an Apple junkie, an Android app is planned for the future. While this is the first official app, one viable third-party alternative is Spring. Taptivate released it a little over a year ago, and it has since been the option of choice to get Formspring on a mobile device. iPhone 5 hitting UK October 21 in 16 GB and 32 GB varieties?

An O2 sales rep has let slip that the iPhone 5 will be landing on October 21, which lines up quite nicely with earlier rumours we had heard from Best Buy . In addition to that, a Vodafone page temporarily listed 16 GB and 32 GB models in both black and white, which are some details we hadn’t heard much of yet.  While neither of these hints are anything conclusive, it reaffirms most speculation that we’ll be seeing an announcement in the next couple of weeks . The iOS 5 device software is just about ready to roll , and with it a handful of new features, like an unobtrusive notification system, while the hardware may include an 8 megapixel camera and a larger screen . Even those details are on shakey ground, though  - at this point, pretty much all bets are off when it comes to what exactly the iPhone 5 will bring to the table. Even carrier partners on this side of the pond are a bit of a mystery. There’s been a lot of talk about Sprint getting it , and AT&T and Verizon seem likely targets, seeing as they both have the iPhone 4 , and it’s still unclear if T-Mobile will get to join in (though that might be a moot point if the AT&T acquisition can make it through the legal gauntlet unscathed ).  At very least T-Mobile in Europe is showing positive signs of a launch . In any case, at least it seems like we won’t have to be wondering for too much longer [via KnowYourMobile , AppleInsider ] iPhone 5 hitting UK October 21 in 16 GB and 32 GB varieties? originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-09-13T14:13:57Z. Dolphin Browser now an iPad thing, too

Dolphin Browser is no longer an iPhone app only – the new HD version has been released, providing iPad users with better web surfing experience. Obviously, the new application takes advantage of the big screen Apple’s tablet rocks, while keeping its core functions like webzine RSS feeds, sidebar and gesture-based browsing. In addition, Dolphin also comes with other handy features, including: Tabbed Browsing – allows you to create as many tabs as you need and quickly switch between them. Full Screen – you can hide toolbars and tabs with a single tap. Find on Page – which is great for long articles for finding reference points. Great bookmark management with support for multiple nested folders. Private Browsing – just like in Google’s Chrome browser. Like it? Gowalla’s new app goes beyond check-ins, with focus on travel and storytelling

Gowalla announced plans for its new app today at TechCrunch’s Disrupt event. As a long time rival to check-in company Foursquare, a new direction for Gowalla’s social location service was needed. The Austin, Texas-based company will attempt to offer a cross between a social app and a travel guide, focused around local experiences. This is how the new Gowalla works: instead of checking in, Gowalla users will now create “stories” when they meet up to hang out together. These are group check-ins, as on Facebook where a user can tag multiple friends at one place. Once complete, any tagged person can give photos and other content to the story, capturing it as a communal experience. The app (version 4.0), is said to bear little resemblance to earlier versions of the app. Gowalla is no longer run as a check-in service, but the idea is now to focus on travel and storytelling. As soon as its new app gets approved, Gowalla will be relaunching with upgrades to its iPhone, Android and Web versions (though users can continue to check in through the old versions). This new update sounds very intriguing, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it for a test drive. Who knows, maybe I’ll replace Foursquare as my number one location-based platform just like I replaced Facebook with Google+. Yes, I’m weird like that. HTC says the iPhone just isn’t cool anymore

After some serious market research, HTC has just concluded that the iPhone is officially uncool. The distinct design, quality materials and fluid OS just doesn’t cut it anymore in a world of 4.5-inch, 1-point-plus-gigahertz Android clones. Now that the iPhone has penetrated high and low-end markets, and has crossed most demographic lines, its saturation has apparently also caused the demise of its desirability. How did HTC come to this staggering conclusion? Martin Fichter, acting president of HTC America, says the following via Geekwire (emphasis mine): “Apple is innovating. Samsung is innovating. We are innovating. Everybody is innovating. And everybody is doing different things for the end consumers. I brought my daughter back to college — she’s down in Portland at Reed — and I talked to a few of the kids on her floor. And none of them has an iPhone because they told me: ‘My dad has an iPhone.’ There’s an interesting thing that’s going on in the market. The iPhone becomes a little less cool than it was. They were carrying HTCs. They were carrying Samsungs. They were even carrying some Chinese manufacture’s devices. If you look at a college campus, Mac Book Airs are cool. iPhones are not that cool anymore. We here are using iPhones, but our kids don’t find them that cool anymore.” Stop the presses. A hip Reed student in hip Portland says the iPhone is for old people. It used to be that you’d walk onto a college campus and see nothing but iPhones. Now that you can spy some Android devices here and there, it’s official: the iPhone is no longer hip. Who wants to be seen using the same device that mom and dad use? Bless their souls, but there is no way that mom and pops is going to rock the same smartphone I do, so instead, I’m going to use “some Chinese manufacturer’s device,” like one of those ZTE Android handsets . Grabbing a smartphone that has access to a gazillion apps, has excellent battery life and a great camera is overrated. My Android phone shoots 3-FRICKIN-D videos. Awesome. It also has a 1.2GHz processor. Benchmarks! So, dad, what can your iPhone do? Enjoying yourself in Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field? iOS 5 Gold Master releasing next week?

An analyst report by Ming-Chi Kuo from Concord Securities predicts the final gold master release of iOS 5 will be released some time next week. Specifically, he said developers will gain access to the iOS 5 GM between September 23 and 30. Kuo believes after the software is released, it will take approximately 10 to 12 days to get it on new units. By new units, of course he means the latest iPod touch and iPhone 5. Let’s take a look at the history of iOS 5 releases so far. Beta 1 was posted for developers on June 6, Beta 2 on June 24, Beta 3 on July 11, Beta 4 on July 22, Beta 5 on August 6, Beta 6 on August 19, and finally the Beta 7 at the end of August. Glancing at this schedule, we are just about due for a new beta, so his theory seems on target. Additionally with all the rumors of an iPhone 5 release in October and Apple’s promise of a release in fall, we’re clearly running out of time. iOS 5 will probably get to customers within the 30 days. Traditionally, Apple didn’t randomly release the GM. Last year at WWDC 2010 , Steve Jobs announced the gold master would be available that day for developers. Regular customers got the release a week or two later. Following this trend, we’ll have to see invitations for an Apple keynote go out very soon — possibly this week. Then once the event takes place, boom: iOS 5 GM seed available. According to rumors, the upcoming keynote will also take wraps off the iPhone 5. Though a refresh to the iPod line is expected as always, there has been a suspicious lack of leaks surrounding them this year. The anaylst also had a few choice words on the latest iPhone 5 rumors: don’t believe them. He suggests the iPhone 5 will only include enhancements from the iPhone 4 such as a new camera and updated antenna system. It will also supposedly have the same design, but right now, it’s his word against the rest of the blogosphere, especially considering the recent leaked cases . iOS 5 will include a number of new features for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad like Twitter integration, a new Reminders app, iMessage, and Notification Center. Which one are you looking forward to most? [via AppleInsider ] iOS 5 Gold Master releasing next week? originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-09-12T21:09:09Z. FV1gMYsz9b5j

TNT now available for the iPad, watch full episodes with a TV subscription

TNT has just released an iPad-optimized version of its app, bringing with it full-length TV episodes and movies. iPad users can expect to get complete access to their favorite TNT shows at any place or time they want. Users can also check out episode guides, watch clips and behind-the-scenes videos, set schedule reminders and even watch full episodes of The Closer, Falling Skies, Rizzoli & Isles and more after authenticating through your television provider. The full feature list includes: Full Episodes of TNT Series and Movies (after authenticating) Series Episode Guides Clips and Behind-the-Scenes Video Show Schedules with Reminders GetGlue, Facebook and Twitter Integration TNT for iPad is available for free, though you need a subscription to a TV provider to have full access. This has become the new trend for television networks going mobile; what sucks is the fact that this only extends the reach of the cable providers seeking more control of the content you like to watch. With apps like this, you can’t have a full streaming experience unless you’re putting money in the satellite and cable providers’ pockets, which blows. In a perfect world, it would be awesome if TV networks charged people who don’t have cable separately.
