HTC gets all musical on us: HTC Bliss and Runnymede will launch as Rhyme and Bass

Man, somebody at HTC is a huge music junkie. First it was the famous Italian composers ,then it was the HTC ChaCha and Salsa, after that it was the whole thing with Beats Audio and now the Taiwanese company is getting ready to launch two more phones with a somewhat musical personality. Meet the HTC Rhyme and the HTC Bass, previously known as the HTC Bliss and HTC Runnymede. According to Handtec , the HTC Runnymede will launch as the HTC Bass and it should become available in early October. As for the HTC Bliss, HTCInside is reporting that the phone will launch with the name of HTC Rhyme. If you’re interested in snapping one of these up, you’ll be happy to know that HTC could announce it as soon as next week. Although it looks like you’ll have to be a Verizon customer to get one. In summary, we have two new HTC phones coming out in the very near future with a whole musical theme going on. Both devices sit on the mid to high end section of the market, thanks to a surprisingly impressive spec sheet . So what say you? Are you ready to get your groove on with either of these devices? As for me, I’m waiting patiently for the one they call Nexus Prime. Gallery

Live Your Android Life Tangle Free With Sinch

This is going to sounds a little crazy but — one of the reasons I don’t fuss around with earbuds is simply because of how gosh-dang easy those things tangle up in my pockets. Seriously. It drives me crazy! I’ve never been one for puzzles and trying to untangle those things is is enough to make me convert primarily to using the speaker on my phone. Thankfully, I came across Sinch which just might get me using my headphones again. As you can see, Sinch aims at keeping your life tangle free with this simple, “why-didn’t-I-think-of-that” accessory that attaches to your existing smartphone, MP3 player or whatever. Simply wind up your cord and Sinch snaps into place thanks to powerful magnets found on both ends. Its clever design is owed in part to frog who apparently had something to do with Imerj’s dual-screened Android powered smartphone we saw not too long ago. If you like what you see, you can grab your own Sinch in either black or white varieties from their site here for $15.99 . [Via Gizmodo ]

106 & Park App Now Available In The Android Market – Gives New Meaning To Full Featured

Fresh off the Android Market is BET’s official 106 & Park app. To say the app is full-featured would be an understatement. This app goes above and beyond what you would expect from a simple app based off of a hit television show. Besides watching clips from the show and the hottest music videos, users can also interact with one another through tweets, vote for their favorite videos with interactive record scratching function and even check out pics of their favorite artists. Also, if using the app while the show is on air, it’s possible to get a call from the show’s hosts, Terrence and Rocsi. Don’t forget you have a chance at winning prizes and unlocking secret content using the app’s built in barcode scanner to scan QR codes that are displayed while the show airs. Don’t feel like spectating from your living room or through your phone? You can also request show tickets from the app as well. BET Networks deserves a pat on the back for bringing a truly interactive television experience to Android. Check out the promo video and Market link below. [ Market Link ]

1.5 GHz dual-core LTE LG Optimus on the way?

Well, it turns out that the LG Optimus is receiving LTE specifications. This new and improved LTE version will be an upgrade with enhanced specs to boot, which is similar to what we have here in the states with the LG Revolution. The Optimus LTE will sport the first 4.5 inch IPS HD LCD ( 1280×720) display. Also, the phone is set to have a 1.5GHz dual- core processor, Android OS 2.3 (gingerbread), an 8-megapixel auto-focus lens and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The LTE is said to provide remarkable performance. Consumers will notice the quality of the HD display, courtesy of the IPS feature, which enhances the phone adding excellent viewing angles. IPS panels are improving, as HD (800×480) displays almost two-fold compared to how they were before. All in all, people overseas should expect to get a souped up LG Optimus with similar featurres carried on the U.S. version. It’s a great phone if you like excellent color reproduction quality, high-resolution photos and video recording capable of catching the picture perfect shots and blazing speeds of 1.5Ghz dual-core LTE isn’t too bad either. This shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise, especially since Verizon’s leaked road map shows more LTE devices on the way . Verizon owners out there, would you buy the Droid Bionic or wait for the LG Revolution? HTC Bliss and Runnymede specs leaked

Remember the Android phone in development dubbed the HTC Bliss ? Or how about the beastly 4.7-inch HTC Runnymede ? At the time we knew few real specs, but today a full list of specifications for both phones have been outed. The HTC Bliss sports a 3.7-inch Super LCD display at 800 x 480 resolution, tri-band 14.4Mbps HSPA, a 5-megapixel autofocus camera (that can do 720p video capture), Bluetooth 3.0, single-band 802.11n, and a front-facing VGA sensor for video calling. The source also mentions a “charm indicator” in the box, which is a light-up bauble used to show incoming calls while hanging out of a handbag. Next is HTC’s Runnymede, which we think is basically the Windows-Phone Titan running Android , with similar specs like a 4.7-inch display and a single-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor. The site also confirmed reports suggesting that the phone would be under 10mm thick saying “it barely makes the cut: 9.9mm, to be exact.” Other noteworthy features include: 8-megapixel camera with 720p capture and dual-LED flash 16GB of on-board storage The Runnymede will be available in multiple SKUs, some of which will have Beats headsets in the box (yes, you heard right). The source also says that the HTC Runnymede will be among the first HTC phones to take advantage of the company’s recent $300m partnership with Beats Audio . I think it’ll be very interesting to see how consumers gravitate to this phone, and having Beats Audio tided in may be the deciding factor — if the price is right. Rant: When phone screens becomes too big?

The recent announcement of the HTC Titan and Samsung Galaxy Note prompted me to once again re-think modern smartphones, tablets and screen sizes. Particularly I was wondering when does a screen (and the device itself) become too bulky to carry around. I remember when the original HTC HD2 was announced I thought no one would want such a big phone in their pockets . Obviously I was wrong and over time I learned to appreciate the benefits of large screens. However, in the meantime my thinking was that 4-inch displays are in the sweet spot, but they are not. Today I find a 4.3-inch screen as mandatory feature of any phone I’ll be buying. If a handset maker manages to cram a 4.5-inch or so display in the same shell (i.e. without making the phone bigger), I would be willing to buy that too (think Samsung Galaxy S II LTE ). All said I don’t really get the idea of phones with 5-inch screens . Are they tablets or phones? I don’t have such large pockets to carry them around. Maybe our female readers dig the idea since they usually carry their gadgets in a bag, but what about the rest of us? Should we start buying pants with bigger pockets? Also with a phone that has a 5-inch screen I’m not sure I’ll need a tablet anymore. This is especially true if we’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note, which has that gorgeous Super AMOLED HD screen that makes colors super vivid and the pixel density makes your brand new HD TV look like a 5-year old technology. What do you think about this? What’s your perfect screen size for a phone? Rant: When phone screens becomes too big? originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-09-13T09:22:48Z. FV1gMYsz9b5j

Orb Live arrives on the Market; brings “free” Hulu, Netflix streaming with it

They took their sweet time, but Orb has finally released an Android app for us non-iPhone users. As some of you might already know, Orb is a service that streams all kinds of online and offline media from your PC/Mac to your mobile device. Everything from Hulu and Netflix to your local music files can be accessed via a WiFi or 3G/4G connection on your Android or iOS device. The service even lets you access your computer’s webcam if you ever need to. Previously, the Orb Live app was only available for our iOS-toting friends. But starting today, the app will be available for Android users as well. (Although, I’m not seeing the app on the Market just yet). Once it does appear on the Market, the app will cost $10. But after that, everything is free. Including the ability to watch Hulu on your phone even if you don’t have a Hulu Plus subscription. I’m quite sure Hulu won’t like that at all. Hulu has been pushing people pretty hard lately to upgrade to their $7.99/month Hulu Plus subscription, which gives you access to Hulu on your Android phone and other devices. However, most people are not comfortable with the idea of paying $8/month for something they’re getting for free on their PCs. On the other hand, paying a one-time fee of $10 to be able to access all your home media on your phone sounds like a more reasonable idea. Having said that, there are a few concerns if you choose to go the Orb route. Mainly, the video streaming quality. We haven’t been able to test this for ourselves, but GigaOM reports that things don’t work quite as promised on some phones: The MyTouch had some notable playback issues, with videos looking pretty jerky even when streamed via WiFi. Janko Roettgers GigaOM I’m sure the Orb team will improve the streaming quality over time, but it’s just something to be aware of. Another issue that might pop up with Orb in the future is the fact that it’s an awesome service. But wait, how is being an awesome service a downside? Well, Orb is doing a couple of things here that will surely piss off the wrong kind of people. First, they’re taking all the media you consume, (whether it comes from a TV, the Internet or your hard drive) and putting it all on your phone for just $10. That’s unheard of in a world where every single media company is trying to nickel and dime you for every single device that you want to consume their content on. You just have to look at the recent spat between Netflix and Starz as an example. To top it all off, Orb is giving you access to all this content through a well-designed and easy-to-use Android app. The audacity! Hopefully, Orb will manage to fly under the radar and stay hidden from trigger-happy copyright lawyers. Gallery

Infographic: Phone hacking and the end of the News of the World

Except if you’ve been living under a rock for the last month or so, you don’t know about the phone hacking scandal that brought the end to the 168-year-old British newspaper, News of the World. Presuming you have some idea what has happened, let’s continue. Since the whole story involved phone hacking, we decided to give it some space at IntoMobile. We don’t want to go into specifics like politics and ethics (you be the judge of that) — rather we want to sum things up for you using the fancy infographic compiled by Veracode , which BTW develops cloud-based application risk management software. Without further ado, here’s how it all fits together… Infographic: Phone hacking and the end of the News of the World originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-09-12T08:48:46Z. FV1gMYsz9b5j
