HTC Runnymede to Launch as HTC Bass?

After it was revealed that the HTC Bliss would hit streets with a more musical name , it appears the HTC Runnymede will also get a branding treatment more in tune with its on-board Beats Audio. Not that anyone thought that the Runnymede name would stick, according to UK mobile retailer Handtec the phone will be known as the HTC Bass. According to the Handtec blog, HTC will be announcing the handset early next month. Pricing and release details won’t be available until then, but a product page exists for the Bass nevertheless. T-Mobile Readies The LG Mytouch Q – Video Tutorials All Set To Go [Update: They're A Pair]

Just got word from my friend @juanaguilar_45 on a rather puzzling email from he received this evening from YouTube. Seemsit was a notification email letting Mr. Aguilar know of a new video tutorial just uploaded to T-Mobile’s channel on their brand new Mytouch Q by LG. Weird thing is, we’ve never even heard of this LG manufactured Mytouch Q until now. Attempting to click the link takes you to a private video so no luck there. Now we can start with the speculating. We’ve known of the LG Optimus Q since back in 2010 and I really don’t think (hope) this could be that same device. You may also remember an “LG Q” that was leaked in a Sprint ID pack but that doesn’t really give us anything but a name. **UPDATE: The fellas over at AndroidGuys were able to secure a few images of the device and combined with a T-Mobile leaked roadmap , we now believe these devices (yup, 2) to be the LGMaxx and Maxx Q (QWERTY version). They’re twins! One will by called the Mytouch by LG and the other will be named the Mytouch Q by LG and both are slated for a November 2nd launch.

More Samsung Prime Rumors – This Time Spotted In The Wild?

Another day, another dose of Samsung Prime rumors. Alright, out of all the rumors we’ve heard so far — this one deserves to be taken with the smallest grain of salt. Apparently, TheDroidGuy was traveling through Las Vegas this week for Verizon’s developer conference when he ran into a Samsung employee. He noticed the guy was holding a nondescript Android device and asked if he could take a look at it. After a bit of persuading, the Samsung employee paused, looked over both his shoulders and finally agreed. The Sammy employee took them into his private office, where he instructed TheDroidGuy (Kyle) to remove his bags, cell phones and possibly all articles of clothing before he could proceed. Once Kyle complied, he whipped out the phone and let Kyle manhandle the device. Identified as the Samsung Nexus Prime the device was described as looking very similar to the Nexus S only bigger and with a home button smack on the front. The device also had an 8MP camera on the back, 2MP front facing camera and running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Wait- what? Yeah, apparently Ice Cream Sandwich is still getting the bugs ironed out and isn’t ready to come out of the freezer, hence the reason for the homescreen button on this early, presumably developer handset. Probably the most interesting bit of information he was able to squeeze out of the Samsung employee was the fact that there would be both a GSM and CDMA version of the device, meaning you can look forward to a Nexus Prime no matter which carrier you’re on. Alright guys, for the final verdict I’m turning this over to you, the jury. Bogus? Real? Was this really the Samsung Prime? Keep in mind Kyle made no mention of his face melting off or hair turning white and last time I checked, that was one of the features of the Nexus Prime… [Via TheDroidGuy ]

Amazon Registers AmazonBoomerang.com – What is It?

After Amazon went and secured KindleScribe.com and KindleScribes.com, it seems they have something else called the Amazon Boomerang as they’ve registered AmazonBoomerang.com. I should note that we have no idea what this could be – Amazon has yet to file a trademark with such a name (from what we can find) that could have given a bit of insight into what we’re expecting. This could be a phone, a tablet, or even a popcorn maker. But you all know we’re hoping this will be that second device with Android we keep hearing Amazon will be bringing. [ Fusible ]

New HTC Runnymede Phone Gets Clearer Press Shot

The HTC Runnymede looks like a great device on paper, horrible name aside (we’re almost 100% sure HTC won’t debut it with this name). Its specs are marvelous, albeit not quite out of the ordinary up against phones HTC’s already released. We’ve got an experience-ruining 4.7-inch WVGA display, 768MB og RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera with a front-facing camera, a 1.5GHz processor and more. According to a leak a little over a week ago we should also be expecting newly-acquired Beats technology inside. Thanks to PocketNow , we’ve gotten a more straight-on look at the device. It looks like it could be white with a glass exterior, though we aren’t going to let our imaginations run too wild on this one. Supposedly set to come out this holiday season.

Rumor: Amazon working on a subscription service for books [Like a library, but not free]

Amazon is rumored to be coming out with a 7 inch tablet later this fall that’ll run a completely custom version of Google’s Android operating system. Said tablet will primarily be used as an electronic book reader, but it’ll also play movies, music, and even browse the web. The best part is, it’s supposed to come in at just $250. That’s half the price of the best selling tablet on the market, Apple’s iPad. One of the things that could make Amazon’s new Kindle even more juicy is a service that gives users access to a vast library of books for a flat monthly fee, similar to how Netflix works for music or Spotify works for music. Sources tell The Wall Street Journal that Amazon just so happens to be working on such a service, though it’s in the early stages of planning. We honestly have no idea when it’ll launch, nor how much they’ll want to charge you every month, but we’re seriously thrilled at the potential of being able to read any book we want, anywhere, anytime. Who benefits the most from this? Authors who are losing money due to electronic book piracy. You can download a 500+ page newly released title in the same amount of time it takes to grab the latest single that’s topping the charts. While that song will take just a few minutes to consume, the book will provide you with quite a few hours of entertainment. And whereas a single can be had for just $0.99 in iTunes, a book in the Kindle format often runs around $10 and that figure has been climbing ever since Apple introduced iBooks. The thing is though, what exactly is wrong with your local library? Do you really want to read a book on a device where Twitter, Facebook, and the internet is just a tap away? Sounds horrible if you ask us. Rumor: Amazon working on a subscription service for books [Like a library, but not free] originally appeared on IntoMobile.com on 2011-09-12T14:11:05Z. FV1gMYsz9b5j

Rumor: Motorola EX225: Dumbphone that’s purpose built to deliver the best Facebook experience?

Images of an unannounced Motorola device called the EX225 have turned up on the Bluetooth SIG’s site . They say it’s a 3G phone with a 2.4 inch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, dual SIM capabilities, and that it’s a “product for [the] trendy generation”. The folks at Unwired View , who made this discovery, have blown up the images of said handset and have concluded that due to a lack of dedicated Android buttons, the EX225 will likely run Qualcomm’s BREW operating system, which is something we’ve seen on several of the company’s latest dumbphones, most notably the Wilder . There’s not too much else to say about this device, we’ve frankly haven’t got a clue as to when it’ll come or how much it’ll cost, but it does leave us scratching our heads a little since we can’t figure out who would want this thing? Earlier today IDC published some figures that show smartphones have finally surpassed featurephones in Western Europe. It’s not that people are buying more expensive mobile phones, the economy on that side of the pond is just as bad as it is in the United States. It’s thanks to the fact that manufacters such as Huawei, ZTE, and more recently Samsung, have introduced smartphones at price points many folks can finally afford. Why would you want to spend 150 Euros on a featurephone when you can have something that runs Android? Now said 150 Euro Android smartphone isn’t going to deliver the same kind of experiance the Samsung Galaxy S II will, but so what? Email, Facebook, Maps, even on a small screen are still impressive to use compared to the old talk and text only device that’s been lurking in the pockets of most folks for the past few years. What say you, is it time we put featurephones to rest? Next Version of Android To Be Named “Jelly Bean?”

If you’re an Android fanboy (like me) there’s probably been a night or two where you kept up late wondering what Google’s name for the next version of Android would be. Well, toss and turn no more! According to a “trusted source” over at ThisIsMyNext, the next version of Android could be named — wait for it — JELLY BEAN. That’s right. Keeping true to Google’s alphabetical order, we’ve seen Android versions Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich and now (possibly) Jelly Bean. Keep in mind it was long rumored that “F” would be Flan before later revealing itself to be Froyo. If you were expecting some big changes for Ice Cream Sandwich, you may be disappointed. Apparently, some of the more “game-changing stuff” Google was supposed to unveil for Ice Cream Sandwich has actually been pushed back to Jelly Bean says TIMN’s sources.I don’t know about you — but that actually made my stomach sink. This takes me back to when Google said Gingerbread would introduce a “major UI overhaul,” only then to find a black notification bar and new talks that it was pushed back to Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS could be the unifying of their phone, tablet and TV OS’s and little else. But if it’s one thing Android has taught me through the years, it’s definitely patience. Hopefully we’ll hear more on Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean when the Nexus Prime is introduced in a few more months. What do you guys think of this news? What would you have named the next version of Android? +100 points if you can come up with some awesome names for the rest of the alphabet! [Via TIMN ]

Sprint iPhone could land in early October

The drumbeat for Sprint getting the iPhone 5 just keeps growing louder, as a reportedly leaked internal memo says that the third-largest carrier is gearing up for a “major phone launch in October.” According to SprintFeed , the carrier is blocking out vacation requests for employees between September 30 through October 15th. The Epic 4G Touch will be landing later this month, so it’s not too crazy to think that this major phone launch will be the next iPhone. The iPhone 5 on Sprint may be the best choice for newcomers to Apple’s smartphone, as reports suggest it will be offered with unlimited data plans . Newbies on AT&T and Verizon have to put up with a tiered data plan, which can quickly be a pain if you’re a big user of streaming services. So Sprint fans, it’s looking like the iPhone 5 on your carrier is real, are you excited or will you be too busy enjoying your Epic Touch 4G too much to care? LG to give 30 percent of its overseas mobile phone staff the ax?

LG Electronics may cut 30 percent of its overseas mobile phone division staff, according to a South Korean media report. This drastic decision came because of the company’s attempt to reform its business and boost smartphone sales, as its mobile division continues to lose money . The Korea Economic Daily also mentioned how the cuts mainly involved mobile marketing and purchasing jobs as well as the shuttering of some unprofitable outlets. The report added that LG is expected to make similar moves in its domestic business. It’s never good news when people lose their jobs, especially when it comes at the hands of the same bad leadership that supposedly turned down development of the first Android device ( a rumor LG denies ). When  FierceWireless reached out to LG, company spokesman Ken Hong dismissed the report, calling it speculation. He later told the wireless site, “turning around our mobile operations is a top priority.” LG’s mobile phone business has been generating operating losses for the past five quarters. LG shipped 24.8 million total handsets in the second quarter, up from 24.5 million in the first quarter but down from 30.6 million units in the year-ago quarter. In July LG said it expects to sell 24 million smartphones this year, down from a previous target of 30 million units; the company expects to sell 114 million handset units overall, well below its previous target of 150 million units. I don’t know what’s going on with the folks over at LG, but they need to get themselves in gear. Every device released as of late, has been half-assed — remember the G2x’s screen bleeding debacle? The company better figure something out quickly or risk the prospect of losing any sort of mobile presence.
